Yesterday we hired a car and drove to Pezenas where I stayed a few years ago. It was wonderful to be back there and share it with Mick and Leisa. They too fell in love with it and declared they’d love to come back. We visited my land lady and had a coffee in their beautiful home, they are Swedish and now live in Pezenas full time. After exploring the village we headed off to Meze for lunch. Meze is on a harbour which is surrounded by little seafood restaurants. We had our last French oysters and mussels.
After lunch we drove to Cote Mas which is at Montangnac and is where the wine The Arrogant Frog is made which we get in Australia. Cote Mas has 2000 hectares worth grapes with literally hundreds of varieties grown. They make a lots of blends and we tried a few before deciding to take some back to the boat for our last supper.
I enjoyed driving again in France and it is indeed like riding a bike (minus the sore backside) once you’ve mastered it then you can slip back into it.
This morning we left the boat and caught the train from Beziers to Montpellier. We left our luggage at the station and spent a few hours exploring Montpellier. It was a beautiful day and again we could definitely have spent more time there. Montpellier has quite a large university population so has a fun vibe about it. The old town is a maze of pedestrian only laneways.
We’re now at the airport waiting to fly to London. We are all busting for a hot shower and a big bed. We are staying at the Holiday Inn but after being on the boat I think it will feel like the Ritz ๐
Oh that first little town which I presume is Pezenas looks divine Linda. It reminds me of Uzes. Have to get back to that part of the world before too long. You have certainly had a wonderful time. xo Fran
